The main secret of male attractiveness is discovered at last, and it has nothing to do with muscles or sense of humor.
It is widely believed that the most important thing capable of making a man attractive to women is either a muscular physique or a good sense of humor. However, recent scientific discoveries suggest that muscle volume and the ability to make people laugh are by no means crucial in capturing a woman’s attention. As it turns out, the prime factor in making a man popular with the opposite sex is altruism — the willingness to perform good and charitable deeds.
As if by some silent agreement, several teams of scientists from different parts of the world recently decided to embark on research into the matter. The male population of our planet will be most interested in the findings made by scientists from Canada, who have discovered a fascinating fact: apparently, altruistically minded men tend to make love more often than the rest.
During the filming of ’Silver Linings Playbook,’ actor Bradley Cooper purchased hundreds of winter coats for homeless people and found time to personally hand them out.
The researchers asked unmarried Canadians about how frequently they committed good deeds such as giving money to charity or helping someone dig out their car from under the snow. Next, they asked questions about their personal life. Having studied the data, the scientists came to the conclusion that kind-hearted men really do enjoy greater popularity with the opposite sex. Such men date a larger number of women throughout their lives and are less likely to find their partners shirking intimacy.
In another study, the researchers asked a number of women to each pick out two men — one for a long-term relationship, the other for a one-night stand. Each woman was offered a number of photos, showing various potential candidates that ranged from handsome to ordinary looking. Half of those men were involved in charitable projects or some other sort of altruistic activity (this information was included in the descriptions that accompanied the photos).
For one-night stands, most women chose egotistic but good-looking candidates. However, when it came to choosing a potential lifelong partner, the majority of respondents preferred a kind and generous personality to a handsome physique.

The test results prove that women see altruism in men as an indicator of the likelihood of them becoming good fathers and husbands, suitable for a long-lasting and responsible relationship.
By the way, a similar study was also carried out amongst men. When asked about their long-term partner preferences, they too went for the kind-hearted candidates, considering them to be suitable mothers for their future children.
Of course, physical attractiveness and a good sense of humor are not wholly unimportant. For instance, women see the ability to tell a good joke as an indicator of smartness. As for outward beauty — in a man who happens to possess a caring heart and an easy disposition, it isn’t at all important.
(Although sometimes it doesn’t hurt).
